Löw experiment with two teams – newcomers Dahoud and Hofmann

Berlin (dpa) – It will be an experiment that has never been seen before. Joachim Löw is tackling the unpopular three-pack against Turkey, Ukraine and Switzerland with two separate teams.

The national coach nominated 26 field players, including newcomers Mahmoud Dahoud from Borussia Dortmund and Jonas Hofmann from Borussia Mönchengladbach, and three goalkeepers. “We let the players arrive in two stages and basically plan with two different teams,” said the national coach after the appointment of his 29-man squad.

While the general meeting point of the national team is on Monday, the Bayern players around the returning captain Manuel Neuer and the Leipzig team and Toni Kroos will not arrive in Cologne until Tuesday and train on the following day. “I am not planning with them for the game against Turkey,” said Loew with a view to the game on Wednesday. In the case of veteran Kroos, the head coach has to wait anyway to see whether a use is even possible after the muscle fiber tear in the buttocks area suffered at Real Madrid.

“The game against Turkey is a welcome opportunity for our young team to test certain things and try out a few things,” said Löw. That suddenly opens up a new chance for players like Nadiem Amiri (Leverkusen), Benjamin Henrichs (Leipzig) and Niklas Stark (Hertha) after a long break in the national team. However, the national coach wants to concentrate on the Nations League, in which Germany has already lost ground after the 1-1 draw against Spain and the 1-1 draw in Switzerland in September. On Saturday, October 10th, the DFB selection will take place in Ukraine, the following Tuesday against Switzerland.

“Quite clearly: we want to have a sense of achievement again, we want to score goals and win again, we want to get points,” said Löw. Especially since in Cologne, after the latest decision by the European Football Association, spectators are again admitted to international matches for the first time in the Corona crisis. The DFB is planning to have 9200 fans in each of the two games. The Cologne health department has the last word here. The Rhenish Bundesliga derby 1. Following the test against Turkey, Löw wants to decide who will take the trip to the corona risk area Kiev. “The regulations stipulate a maximum of 23 players for the UEFA games anyway,” said the national coach on the DFB website: “And as far as the pandemic is concerned, we will again take all measures to reduce the risk of becoming infected, like that to be kept as low as possible. ” The state of North Rhine-Westphalia has already assured the Löw team that there will be no quarantine measures after the return flight from Ukraine to Cologne.

Löw wants to dose the load for each player. “During this intensive period, there will be tension in every phase of the national team, but also relaxation. That’s why we’ve appointed an expanded squad that gives us enough options for the three games, ”he emphasized. “With a view to the individual load control of the players, this is a challenge.”

Goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona), Leroy Sané (FC Bayern) and Thilo Kehrer (Paris) are not included due to injuries. Ilkay Gündogan (Manchester City) should continue to cure himself after being infected with the corona virus at his club, said the German Football Association.
