Louisiana nurse regrets that young people are not vaccinated – Noticieros Televisa

A nurse from the state of Louisiana (in the southern United States) regretted in a viral video that in her hospital are intubating and losing COVID-19 patients their age, and urged young people to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

Felicia Croft, a nurse who works in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Shreveport, shared a video in which she begs, with tears in her eyes, that people get vaccinated against the coronavirus.

“The patients are younger and sicker, and we are intubating and losing people my age and younger.”

“I cannot explain the feeling of defeat when you invest everything in a patient and it is not enough,” said Croft, who has worked on the front lines of the fight against covid since the start of the pandemic.

The young nurse assures that Willis-Knighton Health System, the health center where she works, is at the worst point of the health crisis, coupled with the strong impact of the Delta variant among the unvaccinated population.

Until last monday, 108 of 123 patients admitted for covid in their hospital had not been immunized. Those with a full scheme often return home to embrace loved ones again, Croft says, but with unprotected patients their future is more uncertain.

“And then knowing that they could have been vaccinated and it could have made a difference,” says the nurse through tears in her video.

Louisiana on alert

Despite the ease with which a person can access the COVID-19 vaccine in the United States, several entities in the neighboring country still record vaccination rates below 50 percent, especially in the southern states.

As of July 20, only 40% of the Louisiana population had been vaccinated. The explosive shooting of cases in recent weeks has led to an increase in vaccinations, placing the entity above 45%.

In recent days, Louisiana has been recording more than 5 thousand cases per day at the same time that many people continue to reject the vaccine, either for political or religious reasons, or because they are victims of misinformation.
