Loola Pérez: “Orgasm should never be the end of an erotic encounter, but a possibility”

The sexologist and president of the Association of Young Women of the Region (Mujomur), Loola Pérez, today offers the first talk of the I Health, Women and Equality Conference of the Region. Half an hour to learn about ‘Sexual health and women: more well-being, more pleasure’.

Is sexual health linked to joy?

Talking about sexual health implies talking about pleasure because with it we gain quality of life. We are sexed beings, with the capacity to desire.

Is orgasm necessary?

It should never be the purpose in an erotic encounter, but a possible consequence. What is sought is intimacy, pleasure, sensations …

And can you fully enjoy sex while you are sick?

When we have a life event that changes our lifestyle, our desire may decrease. The problem is that many of the stimuli that previously encouraged that desire disappear. For people with breast or cervical cancer, the oncologist helps them understand the disease and the treatment, but does not guide them on how to enjoy erotic life again. More multidisciplinary teams are lacking.

Can you say that a cancer has been overcome when the sexual appetite has not recovered?

Our body is a great erotic map that must be studied after undergoing these changes. After a hysterectomy, many women feel that they have lost their femininity and this is not the case. Sexuality is not in the genitals.

Is there more involvement of public health?

Sexology is a pending issue for the public health system. A GP is not enough. This is a discipline that draws on physiological, anthropological and psychological knowledge.

Do you recommend self-stimulation for those who do not have a partner?

Masturbation is not mandatory. What I advise is to know yourself. Female sexuality has gone from being contained by traditional cultural values to experiencing an explosion that, at times, has been swallowed up by consumerism, creating a false idea of liberation or sexual freedom.

What is essential to enjoy good sexual health?

Develop enough social skills to ask for help on topics that are still taboo and, on the other hand, commit to sex education. What is not learned with sex education, in the classrooms, in the end ends up in the consultations. People often grow up with false beliefs that lead us to a coitocentric, finalist view of sex that only accounts for performance. We grow up with a series of distorted content and a lot of misinformation that makes it difficult to fully experience sexuality.

Live from the Archaeological Museum
