LOOK / British scientists called a specific symptom of coronavirus

Experts from the British Association of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT UK) have concluded that people with a new coronavirus disease can stop tasting food or smell.

This symptom will help determine the presence of the disease in those who are asymptomatic, the researchers are sure, reports TASS.

“There is compelling evidence from South Korea, China, and Italy that a significant number of patients with proven COVID-19 infection developed anosmia / hyposmia (loss / decrease in sense of smell – approx. VIEW). In Germany, more than two out of three confirmed cases have reported anosmia. In South Korea, where testing was more widespread, in 30% of patients with positive testing, anosmia was the main symptom in mild forms of the disease, ”ENT UK said.

Moreover, there is a loss of smell only in 10-15% of cases with any coronavirus infection or with more than 200 known viruses. But given the fact that a coronavirus pandemic is developing in the world, they recommend paying attention to this factor for patients who do not have other symptoms of coronavirus.

Pediatrician and TV presenter Yevgeny Komarovsky told, that in children most often in the case of a new coronavirus, symptoms similar to SARS are observed.

On Saturday, Anthony Pesenti, head of the intensive care unit at the Lombardy clinic disproved the common belief that severe coronavirus infection can only affect older people.

According to the latest data, the number of coronavirus infected with COVID-19 in the world reached 234 thousand people, almost 10 thousand people died.
