Navalny wants to get rid of extra heavy surveillance in captivity | Abroad

The prominent Kremlin critic, who is serving 2.5 years in prison for a controversial fraud case, says the extra measures equate to torture. Navalni says he is being filmed and woken up several times during the night by security guards. His case will be heard by a court in Moscow on June 22.

Navalny’s move comes at a time when his supporters are increasingly cornered. His team claims that opponents of President Vladimir Putin will be eliminated in the run-up to the parliamentary elections in September.

For example, Navalny’s anti-corruption movement has been accused of being extremist. The court will rule in June whether it may be placed on the list of extremist and terrorist organizations, which amounts to a ban. In addition, politicians are working on a bill that prohibits members of extremist organizations from standing for election as representative of the people.
