Lollipop Chainsaw remake: the original creators had nothing to do with it!?

Neither the two co-writers nor the main character’s voiceover work on the thoughtful game… so how successful can this be?

Lollipop Chainsaw is getting an overhaul. The original version was a colorful, merciless zombie-slicing game (the chainsaw in the game’s title should be taken literally; it was our main weapon). The fast-paced action game had two writers. One of them was James Gunn (he was the writer of Scooby-Doo at the time, and has since worked for Marvel), and the other was Suda Goichi, aka Suda51. And it turned out: none of them can be connected to the remake…?!

Gunn a On Twitter wrote that neither he nor Suda51 are working on the remake. He himself first heard about the project a few weeks ago, when Suda told him about it. He then took a neutral stance, as he neither supports nor condemns the new version of Lollipop Chainsaw, because he simply knows nothing about it. His and Suda51’s names are constantly being bandied about in the press, but he believes it’s important to clarify: neither of them have been approached.

Suda51 was not only the co-writer of Lollipop Chainsaw, but also its creative director, so he had a serious insight into the development. He’s on Twitter too reacted: as Gunn wrote, he is not connected to the remake, and Grasshopper Manufacture, the game’s original development team, is not connected to it either, so it really is a completely different studio behind its implementation… except for Yasuda Yoshimi, who said that among the original developers some are working on it. But that doesn’t mean much.

Then Tara Strong, the voice of Juliet Starling, the main character of Lollipop Chainsaw answered: he is not working on the game either, which will most likely drop a significant part of the licensed music, plus (according to Yasuda) the graphics will get a much more realistic approach, which is quite a strange statement in light of the fact that this was a game intended to be stylish a decade ago.

Dragami Games, the successor to the game’s Japanese publisher Kadokawa Games, plans to release a remake of Lollipop Chainsaw for PS3 and X360 in 2023.
