GRESHAM, Pray. – The coronavirus has claimed the lives of more than 72 thousand people around the world. In the Pacific Northwest, in Washington state, there are 343 deaths and 29 deaths in Oregon. Federal authorities warned that this week would be the strongest and saddest for most US residents “because of COVID-19.

For a local family, that time of sadness has arrived. María Alejandra Itzab Bautista, wife and mother of 64 years of age, recently died of the deadly new coronavirus.

“On March 25, she was positive for coronavirus, but we admitted her to the hospital since Monday, March 23, because she told me … I was working and she told me that she could not breathe,” Justino Gamboa, Jr. reported by telephone. Mrs. Itzab Bautista.

Justin immediately took his mother to the hospital.

That would be the last time he would see her.

After being admitted, hospital staff already let Justino in to accompany her.

Already in the hospital, alone without her son or husband, without anyone to accompany her, Mrs. Bautista’s state of health worsened because she also suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure: thus her body’s defenses were not sufficient against the final attack of the coronavirus.

Justin assured that his mother took the necessary measures to avoid getting sick but does not know how it was that she got infected.

He also tested positive for contact with her and after taking a COVID-19 test, Justino discovered that he was positive for the disease and was quarantined for 14 days.

“Yes, the disease affected me a little, it did not give me fever, but it has been about ten days since I no longer have fever and about three days that I do not have symptoms like chest pain, something like that.”

In addition to the fever, Justin suffered chest pains, he felt lumps in his throat when passing saliva or drinking water.

Doña Itzab Bautista passed away on April 1.

For Justinus and his family, this was the first of three hits. One, death, the second just as painful was not having been with her in her last days of life due to the restrictions they have in hospitals with infected people. The third, not even hugging her and limited to just seeing her in the distance.

“But he put the phone in my mom’s ear and a translator said these words: ‘we are going to miss her very much, we thank her for everything she did for us and that God loves her.'”

Justino’s family is mourning, but not even together, all separated to avoid another tragedy in the family.

“Well, between family, me, my brothers and my dad, each one of us is crying our loss separately because we cannot see each other, because we are respecting the contingency, not each one at home.”

The concern now is to take care of the health of his father, who will turn 69 in June. The whole situation has plunged Dad into a sea of depression.

Before the last goodbye, a special request from the family of Mrs. María Alejandra was fulfilled. The funeral home gave permission for the family to see the mother’s face for the last time, taking turns of 20 minutes each and keeping at least two meters away.

Gamboa asks everyone to take the necessary measures to avoid going through the same suffering of losing a loved one and caring for everyone, especially elderly relatives who are in a delicate state of health.

“That when we go to the store we do not all go, do not take children, he understands me, that only one person and protected go, put on the mask, try not to approach other people whoever is not.”

That is Justino’s message, that you can say goodbye with a few words, with a hug or a cry, as close as you can, to your loved one.

Justino said that because they lost their job and have to be quarantined, the expenses have been accumulating. If you would like to provide financial aid, the information can be found by clicking here.
