LIVE | Camping on Terschelling must be closed | Inland

The extra test location on Terschelling will also be open on Monday where residents and tourists can have themselves tested for the corona virus. This location was set up in the village of Midsland after eight young people who had been at camping Appelhof were found to have the corona virus upon their return. The test location is not far from the youth campsite. Monday it will be checked whether the location remains open.

In recent days, hundreds of people, mostly young people who are on the campsite, have been tested for the virus. As far as is currently known, a total of fourteen people who have been to the Appelhof have tested positive for the corona virus. The GGD reports four new infections on Sunday. These are people who have not had themselves tested on the island but had it done at home after they received complaints, according to the Frisian GGD.

The campsite has to close its doors on Monday at noon, well before the holiday season would end for him. The owner of the campsite calls that – he would be open for another two weeks – a financial loss. But he had to close, he said earlier: “You have to, you cannot do anything else but close.” He was criticized last weekend for advising young people staying with him to take off their camping bracelet. “They are not allowed to sit anywhere, they are not allowed to enter the swimming pool,” he said.

Everhard Hofstra, infectious disease control doctor at the GGD, said he could imagine giving that advice, if it is a reaction to the fact that young people have been banned from places on the island. “There is no reason to exclude young people without complaints. Young people with complaints, like all other Dutch people, are expected to comply with the rules of quarantine. In the Netherlands, we give citizens their own responsibility. This also applies to these young people, so they can also move freely. With this text you give them their own responsibility. ” He emphasized that both young people and the campsite owner have cooperated well with the GGD in this case.
