Little music

The American pianist and pedagogue Frances Clark stated that “the song it is found inside every child. The teacher’s job is to find it and cultivate it. ‘ They take care of this in the Paupa music school, in the Anglican church of Son Armadams, which already has a school in Germany and has arrived on the island just over two months ago.

«Paupa is a music school focused on children and we teach classes from 3 to 16 years old. We try to make teaching more experimental, that is to say, that they learn and understand the theory in a practical way. All children learn to read music but always starting by playing something instrument», Explains Paula Escudero, co-founder of the school with Patrick Nagel.

Open environment

In Paupa they want the music to be from easy access, explorable and expandable. In addition to individual classes, in church or at home, in Paupa they have started a new project: open groups, where children learn to play a multitude of instruments, such as piano, guitar, ukulele, double bass or to use their own voice in company of others. “The open groups They are an open space for children with or without experience in music, but who want to play in a group. It is a more fun way to learn than studying at home individually. Furthermore, it is a way of develop and put into practice the private classes that each one has been doing on their own.

Although Paula Escudero speaks the Castilian flawlessly, Nagel leads the classes in English with great energy. Children move from one instrument to another, creating a dynamic environment in which they have the opportunity to experience different sensations. Likewise, importance is given to singing and also to the sense of rhythm, although some children have it more than developed.

«I started studying music at the age of seven. I was going to conservatory and he played the piano, but he wanted to play in a group. It’s more fun, you feel less pressure and you feel more accompanied, ”explained 13-year-old student Sasa Nicole.
