New York is getting a new park – on the Hudson River. “Little Island” is slightly larger than a soccer field and is due to open in the course of spring. It is planned that cultural events will take place there, for example in a 750-seat amphitheater. There should be several places for performances, the park should form a bridge between nature and art, as the organizers inform.
Artists should bring the park to life with a curated program. In a three-year residency they will plan events and festivals with local partners.
The island in front of the west side of Manhattan stands on huge concrete steles of different heights, so that the garden landscape with dozens of trees, bushes and lawns appears livelier due to a large slope. Last but not least, “Little Island” also offers a good – and rare – view of some parts of Manhattan and its skyline. (dpa)
