As the agency notes, the number of representatives of the Frontex corps will increase over time. Already this month, 30 of them will work together with Lithuanian border guards on the border with Belarus.
According to BNS, they will come to Lithuania with their equipment, weapons, vehicles.
“Such assistance Frontex has recently needed in Lithuania in connection with a noticeable increase in cases when illegal migrants try to get from Belarus to Lithuania,” the agency explained.
It is known that 672 illegal migrants tried to get to Lithuania from Belarus this year. This is more than eight times than last year.
The BNS adds that Frontex’s task is to help member states in cases where operational and technical support is needed near the external borders of the community, in the event of organizing joint operations to return migrants.
