Literature. 12,000 signs and 1 festival: Nancy puts the art of the News forward

The first edition was such a delight that it was impossible not to reproduce the test! Supported by the Les Fruits du Hasard theater company and the literary association 3 Patttes à 1 Canard, the 12,000 signs festival therefore persists, and signs. It is the average length in number of characters of these short texts baptized “news” which gave its name to the Nancy event entirely dedicated to a literary genre highly prized among the Anglo-Saxons, but still too often despised in our climates. . While Claire Castillon had looked at the baptismal font in 2019, it was the writer Messin Joël Egloff who was elected godfather of the 2020 edition. “For having myself participated in the festival last year as as a news writer, I was able to see that something had happened right away: it was the first time that it had taken place, and yet there was already the festive and convivial side that so warmly brings together festival-goers. “Not only is the initiative rare in France to devote to the News a strong time of readings, literary walks and banquets, meetings and round tables, but in addition” the beautiful place given to musical reading and staging, which is The strong axis of the 12,000-character festival, which makes it so interesting, really puts the text back in the center, ”Joël Egloff appreciates. “In a traditional literary encounter, one can always talk about a book without having read it, but here, one cannot cheat: the text is laid bare, and this way of communicating it by reading it aloud, by to savor it seems to me to be the simplest relationship between a text and a reader. ”Not to mention that if the short fictional form actually allows exercise, it is nonetheless fascinating, catalyzing great discussions on strong subjects! “It’s a genre in its own right, as noble as the romantic genre, an exercise in refinement but not at all a sort of training for writing a novel: I read short texts which were worth many novels”, insists the author of “Libellule” (2012) and “Les Ensoleillée” (2000), two collections of short stories published alternately with his novels, the first of which, the famous “Edmond Ganglion & Fils” (1999) adapted to the cinema in 2017, but also “What I do there sitting on the floor”, grand prix for black humor in 2004, or “L’Étourdissement”, prize for the Inter Book in 2005. These last two have been adapted for the theater, and in particular by Benoît Fourchard, from the company Les Fruits du Hasard, about “What I’m doing there sitting on the floor”. From there was born an unwavering friendship between the two writers. And it is perhaps also because, in addition to this common love of literature, it is the friendship that unites Benoît Fourchard and Sylvie Drouant, president of the association 3 Patttes à un Canard, that the 12000 festival signs generates such beautiful energy! Joël Egloff does not hide it, he who is currently immersed in the marathon writing of his next book, which will be both novel and narrative: “It is a great pleasure for me to be the godfather of this festival of the News, it is flattering and moving ”.

Everything has been done to ensure that the 12,000 signs festival takes place from November 14 to 22 in Nancy (54) and surroundings. Update on the 12000 signs Facebook page # 02
