Rough evening Saturday August 22, 2020 at Lisieux (Calvados). A 30-year-old man, armed, entrenched himself at home, boulevard Herbet-Fournet. His wife, pregnant, was also in the apartment. The raid had to intervene.

At around 7.45 p.m., the police went to the couple’s home for a violent argument involving the individual, his brother and the young woman. It is the brother of the madman, injured, who notified the emergency services. He indicates that his brother used a firearm.

The neighborhood sealed off for four hours

Given the profile of the madman, well known to the justice services and suffering from psychiatric problems, a important device is set up with the police, the SAMU, the firefighters, the CRS in reinforcement during the summer on the coast and of Bac (anti-crime brigade) personnel from Caen. The boulevard is closed to traffic.

About thirty police officers from the Raid mobilized

The situation remains frozen for a long time. The authorities therefore decide to appeal at the Raid. From Paris, around thirty police officers armed and hooded of elite unit arrive in the capital of the Pays d’Auge around 11 p.m.

Quickly, negotiations began with the madman, still entrenched. He will eventually surrender 30 minutes later.

The individual, but also his shocked companion, are taken in charge by the firefighters for examinations. No serious injuries were to be deplored during the operation. Around midnight, the road is reopened to traffic, the neighborhood can resume normal life.

In custody after examinations

Drunk, the madman was placed in a drunken cell, then in police custody. His hearing will allow us to know more about the reasons for his act, still unclear at this time. It should also be examined by a psychiatrist.

The mayor of Lisieux, Sébastien Leclerc, and Corinne Lejeune, deputy mayor, followed the intervention of the security forces minute by minute on the spot, alongside the sub-prefect of Vire, Pierre-Emmanuel Simon, who represented the prefect.
