Lionel Messi’s Unhappy End to PSG Era: Moving to Inter Miami

The Lionel Messi era at PSG has written its final chapters. After spending two years in France, the Argentinian world champion is moving to Inter Miami, an MLS participant, and he talked about his engagement with Les Parisiens in an interview with the Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo. At the same time, his words did not have a completely positive character. He only felt good at the club last fall.

In the summer of 2021, it was undoubtedly the biggest transfer bomb. The long-time Barcelona icon headed to Ligue 1, where he was expected to form a lethal trio with his former team-mate Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. Everyone in Paris imagined that this grouping would direct the team to the desired triumph in the Champions League.

However, only two titles in the French top flight and one of the Trophée des Champions took place in the finals. In short, both sides painted a brighter future. “I have mixed feelings about my stay in Paris. The truth is that the first year was very difficult for me, for various reasons,” stated Messi. “But during the second year, the first six months, I felt really, really good. I was happy in the city, and so was my family.”

But PSG’s traditional spring failure in the millionaire competition once again cast a big shadow over the entire club. Suddenly, the situation turned in a different direction. And this despite the fact that Messi traveled from Qatar back to Paris after the world championship encouraged by the first place. “The World Cup affected all the teams in general. It affected the season a bit,” carried on. “I think that tournament really set the tone of the season. I expected it to end differently. It was two years that were difficult for me. But they are behind me now.”

Messi’s position then weakened even more after a dispute arose between him and the management of the Parisians over his trip to Saudi Arabia for advertising purposes. So he was dropped from the squad for a while because he didn’t get permission. In his defense, he announced his plans. He didn’t just pack up and travel to Asia unnoticed. In the end, Messi also made enemies of the fans who booed him at the Parc des Princes. “It was two years in which I was not happy. I didn’t enjoy it, it also affected my family life,” he finished.
