Since Monday, October 4, already, students from 47 departments were exempt from wearing a mask once they entered their classroom. On October 6, the government announced in the Official Journal the lifting of this measure for 21 new territories. From October 11, students from CP to CM2 will be exempt from wearing a mask in 68 departments of France.

Among the new territories concerned are the Hautes-Alpes, a department particularly affected by the virus during the third wave, but also Oise, Eure-et-Loir, Gironde, Doubs and Ille-et-Vilaine. Overseas, it is Mayotte and Reunion that the declining incidence rate makes it possible to escape the rule of wearing a mask in the classroom. An extension that will come into force on Monday, October 11.

For the relief to take effect, the Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer had specified that the incidence rate had to be less than 50 for five consecutive days. For the last 33 departments, the level of circulation of the virus is still too high, the level 2 health protocol is maintained.

In addition to giving up the mask, the pupils of these schools will once again be able to eat together, and not at separate tables. In addition, all sports activities will be allowed inside and outside. Professionals must nevertheless maintain the mask in confined spaces and outdoors, if the rules of the department require it.
