The emergency department of the André Renard hospital in the Liège city of Herstal will be closed until Monday. The board has announced this. The reason is a lack of and fatigue on the part of the staff.

“For two years now, the entire hospital staff has been making the greatest effort in the fight against COVID-19,” the hospital said. “We have exhausted all resources that will enable us to carry out our duties as a general hospital and we have reached the limit of what is humanly possible.”
The emergency room has therefore been closed since 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon and will not reopen until 8 a.m. on Monday, December 13. In this way, the hospital wants to prevent an influx of new patients. During the same period, only essential interventions are carried out.
“We are aware that this will not solve anything in the long term,” it continues. “Without an upgrade of the nursing profession, the situation will worsen in the coming months, so structural measures are required.”
