Lieberman Calls for Israeli Control of Southern Lebanon Up to the Litani River and Addressing Gaza Crisis

The head of the Yisrael Beytenu party, Avigdor Lieberman, called on Saturday for Israel to control southern Lebanon up to the Litani River.

On Saturday evening, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority conducted an interview with Lieberman, in which he called on the Israeli government to control southern Lebanon up to the Litani River, claiming that this would give Beirut a government through which it would exercise its sovereignty over Lebanese territory.

Lieberman, who held more than one position in previous Israeli ministries, including the Ministry of Defense and Finance, explained that any other arrangement in southern Lebanon, away from Israel’s control over that region up to the Litani River, would return his country to the same place within a few years, as he claimed.

Last Wednesday, Avigdor Lieberman said that about one and a half million residents of Gaza will leave the Strip for the Egyptian Sinai, indicating during an interview with the Israeli newspaper “Calcalist” that what happened in the Gaza Strip is that “the Egyptians have turned it into an Israeli problem and we will not be able to deal with it.” With the Gaza problem alone,” he claimed.

Lieberman, who previously served as Minister of Defense in his country, stated that Israel must make the Gaza problem a public crisis, not a private one, and that his country should be concerned with its security, calling for the occupation of the Philadelphia axis, located between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, and the demolition of walls and tunnels as well, he said.

Avigdor Lieberman stressed that as soon as such obstacles to the Israeli army end, one and a half million Palestinians in Gaza will leave the Strip for Sinai.

Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have been continuing since October 7, when the Hamas movement, which controls the Strip, announced the start of Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood.” Thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza at Israel, and its forces stormed Israeli settlements adjacent to the Strip, causing the death of about 1,200 Israelis, in addition to the capture of about 250 others.

Israel responded by officially declaring war on the Gaza Strip, which began with devastating bombing and then ground military operations inside the Strip that have so far claimed the lives of more than 21,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and injured more than 54,000 others, according to the Gaza health authorities, and destroyed the infrastructure. sector, and put it under complete siege.

The battles included a seven-day truce, which was reached through Egyptian, Qatari, and American mediation, during which prisoners of women and children were exchanged, and quantities of aid were brought into the Gaza Strip.

Fighting has renewed between Israel and the Palestinian factions in Gaza, led by the Al-Qassam Brigades affiliated with Hamas, since the morning of Friday, the first of December, after the end of the truce, which lasted a total of 7 days.
