Lidl CEO is already packing his things after a few months

After just a few months, CEO Ignazio Paternò is leaving Lidl again. According to Lidl, the CEO leaves the company at his own request and with immediate effect.

Italian Paternò, who grew up in Germany, started at the discounter in 2004 and would temporarily take the helm of the chain in 2019, replacing Jesper Hojer. A few months ago, however, he got a permanent appointment, which he is now putting aside. His position will be temporarily taken over by Gerd Chrzanowski, who will soon succeed Klaus Gehrig as head of parent company Lidl Schwarz Gruppe.

Paternò cites ‘his life in Italy’ as the reason for stepping down from his position, but according to Store Manager it remains to be seen whether that is the main motivation for his departure. After all, the CEO has spent almost his entire career at the discounter and has left Italy for years. For example, there is speculation about a possible conflict with Klaus Gehrig as the actual reason for his departure.
