LG – 2019 TV models get Apple TV + video-on-demand service

At the beginning of the year, LG Electronics (LG) presented its 2020 Smart TVs with integrated Apple TV app at CES in Las Vegas. As of now, this is now also available on the 2019 Smart TVs in over 80 countries. The app can be easily controlled via the LG Home Launcher and gives owners of LG TVs access to Apple’s new video-on-demand service Apple TV +, which includes Apple originals such as “The Morning Show”, “See”, “Servant” and “Little America”.

Apple TV channels can also be subscribed to via the Apple TV app – these are premium video offers that can be accessed online and offline without ads and on demand. In addition, users can access their iTunes video library and thus buy or rent over 100,000 films and series. One click on the LG Magic remote control is enough to use the offer.

LG TVs offer industry-leading picture and sound quality for an unparalleled home theater experience to continue to meet the growing number of high quality offerings from the world’s leading content providers. With its large selection of Dolby Atmos-compatible titles, the Apple TV app is therefore an ideal addition to LG TVs. LG was one of the first TV manufacturers to use Dolby technology – and the latest LG TVs, like their predecessors, also support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, which ensures immersive home cinema enjoyment with vibrant colors and amazingly realistic sound.

The 2019 and 2020 TVs from LG also support Apple AirPlay 2. This means that owners of iPhones, iPads or Macs can play content directly on the TV. Users can also play music on the TVs and sync the TV with other AirPlay 2-compatible speakers. Apple HomeKit is also supported, with which users can control their TV easily and securely via the home app on iPhones and iPads or by voice with Siri.

LG TV owners can now enjoy Apple TV in addition to AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on all 2019 OLED TVs and NanoCell TVs (model series SM95, SM90, SM86 and SM85). The Apple TV app will be made available for additional UHD televisions (SM82 and selected UM7x models) later this month. The Apple TV app and Apple TV + will be available on the 2020 LG TVs when they are launched and will also be rolled out for the 2018 LG TVs in the course of this year via an OTA firmware update.

“LG continues to offer a unique home entertainment experience with technological innovations aimed at delivering high quality TV formats and ease of use,” said Park Hyoung-sei, president of LG Home Entertainment Company. “With the introduction of the Apple TV app and Apple TV + on other TV models, we are once again demonstrating our efforts to meet the needs of consumers and thus increase the added value of our products.”
