Chain not worn visibly? Gil Ofarim surveillance video raises questions

There is no evidence from the surveillance video that Gil Ofarim was wearing his Star of David necklace openly – that could have a major impact on the incident.

On the Recordings that are available to the Bild-Zeitung, you can see Gil Ofarim taking his luggage from a car, going through the reception area and finally queuing for the check-in.
Particularly noticeable: the chain with the Star of David on Ofarim’s chest cannot be seen in the pictures, at least not above the clothes, as can be clearly seen in the singer’s Instagram video.
A piquant detail – after all, the Star of David is the linchpin of the allegation that Gil Ofarim had voiced against the hotel.

In his video, the 39-year-old reported that an employee of the hotel had brought several guests in line in front of Ofarim and then asked the singer to take off the Star of David after his complaint.
This scenario would not have been possible if Gil Ofarim hadn’t worn the necklace at all.

It was only on Tuesday that the “Let’s Dance” winner filed a criminal complaint with the Munich police because of the incident, as he has his permanent residence there.
The Leipzig public prosecutor’s office has also received several reports of the incident, including from the hotel employee accused of defamation.
He had already described the incidents differently than Ofarim himself. Already last week, the Leipzig public prosecutor announced that they would examine the allegations for criminal relevance – here, too, it was already questioned whether the singer was wearing the Star of David at the time of the incident had worn.

Confronted with the recordings of the surveillance video, Gil Ofarim is said to have told the image have expressed that he could not remember exactly whether he wore the necklace that evening or not. In his opinion, it is much more serious that he had been insulted in an anti-Semitic manner – after all, he was often seen on television with the Star of David, so that he was brought into public possession with it. However, he truthfully admitted to the police that he was not sure whether he had worn the chain under or above his clothes.

Gil Ofarim’s Instagram video caused a sensation nationwide. Hundreds of people expressed their solidarity with the singer both online and in the form of a demonstration in front of “The Westin” in Leipzig.
