JAKARTA, celebrities.id – Sony has officially acquired a game developer from the United States, Bungie. Sony announced this annexation through its Twitter social media recently.
“The agreement to acquire Bungie has been closed. So now we can officially say… welcome to the PlayStation family, @Bungie,” wrote Sony.
As reported by The Verge, Sunday (17/7/2022), the acquisition of Bungie by Sony itself has a pretty fantastic value. Unmitigated reached 3.7 billion US dollars or equivalent to Rp. 55.4 trillion.
Now, Bungie who is the developer of a number of popular games such as Halo Series and also Destiny Series it has come under the Sony umbrella.
Bungie CEO Pete Parsons said in a blog post that Bungie will continue to publish and develop games more creatively and independently.
“We want the world we create to expand wherever people play games. We will continue to self-publish, creatively independent, and we will continue to encourage a unified Bungie community,” said Pete.
While Sony said it would rely on Bungie for its world-class expertise in multi-platform development and live game services.
“Which will help us realize our vision of expanding PlayStation to hundreds of millions of players,” said Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO, Jim Ryan.
The acquisition of Bungien by Sony itself has actually been announced some time ago. Sony revealed that the company plans to launch more than 10 new live service games by March 2026.
With Bungie now officially a part of Sony and Take-Two finalizing its acquisition of Zynga in May, it’s just a matter of waiting for Microsoft to complete its $68.7 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard.
It may take a little while for that to actually materialize, Microsoft expects the deal to be reached in fiscal year 2023, which starts this month and runs through June 2023.
With the rise of acquisitions of game developers by large companies, it can be predicted that the game industry will become more and more crazy in the future.
