Lebanese Army Arrests 134 People for Attempted Illegal Sea Crossing to Europe

Today, Saturday, the Lebanese army announced the arrest of 134 people for trying to illegally cross the sea towards Europe.

The army stated, in a statement, that a patrol from the Intelligence Directorate, backed by an army unit, arrested 134 people in the town of Sheikh “Zinad” in the Akkar region, in the north of the country, for trying to sneak across the sea illegally towards a European country. With the detainees under the supervision of the competent judiciary.

It is noteworthy that the Lebanese army managed to thwart more than one smuggling operation across the sea illegally, with the aim of reaching Europe.

It is reported that in late September 2022, the coasts of Syria witnessed the sinking of a boat sailing from Lebanon with dozens of illegal immigrants on board, killing at least a hundred people, in one of the deadliest drowning incidents in the eastern Mediterranean.
