Lawyer of one of the prisoners escaped from the Police station in Cali asks him to surrender

Around 2:00 am last Tuesday, July 19, there was an escape of 36 prisoners who were being held at the La Flora Police Station in Cali, located on Avenida 3A Norte No. 27-00; for this fact, the authorities offered up to ten million pesos in reward for the whereabouts of the prisoners, an incentive with which to date, they have been able to recapture seven of these subjects.

“They damaged the bars of the cell and then they left through the back of the station. We are with our judicial police and intelligence group to continue with this process and give a good result as soon as possible,” said Brigadier General Juan Carlos León Montes, commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police.

He also explained that the prisoners in this station in the north of the capital of the Valley are detained for theft, personal injury, drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms. “All of them had an intramural security measure, none of them were convicted”, he assured.

Meanwhile, the authorities continue to search for the escaped inmates; Juan David Castillo, criminal lawyer and proxy of one of the prisoners, asked his client to surrender as soon as possible.

“The idea is that they turn themselves in because this situation can worsen their legal situation, to my attorney is the call that I make because he could be immersed in another crime that is the escape of prisoners “, manifested.

So far, the Metropolitan Police of Cali, in coordination with the Ministry of Security and Justice, is still standing with the reward of up to ten million pesos for information that leads to the whereabouts of the fugitives.

“Depending on the dangerousness of each inmate, a reward of up to ten million pesos will be offered for information that allows us to recapture these people. The remuneration will be staggered depending on the crimes for which they were captured, “said Jimmy Dranguet, Secretary of Security and Justice (e) of Cali.

On the other hand, Brigadier General Juan Carlos León Montes, commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, sent a strong message to the prisoners who escaped from the La Flora Station. “We make a call to those people who escaped, that if they want to appear again before the competent authority, we are waiting for them to continue all those judicial processes in which they are already, and not be linked in other processes for this flight of prisoners,” he said.

León Montes also indicated that the issue of overcrowding in the city’s police stations is becoming more critical every day. A cell that has capacity for 15 people had 84 detainees, an overcrowding of 475%.

“It is a problem that we are dealing with throughout Cali and the metropolitan area. There is overcrowding of over 400% in all cells in all police stations. We are doing all the investigations to find the recapture of these subjects; also the internal and disciplinary part by the police”, he stated.

As a solution to this problem, Jimmy Dranguet said that during the morning they have reviewed more than 30 properties in Cali and its outskirts, in order to find a space that complies with security measures and technical measures to be able to hold prisoners. .

“We already have a property, a space in the south of Cali that will allow us to house nearly 400 prisoners. We are specifying details to be able to implement that place. The idea is to decongest the Police stations a little because we must continue capturing people, we must continue to deprive of liberty those people that a judge of the republic orders it, We must continue to guarantee citizen security, public order and the tranquility of all Caleños,” he concluded.

Finally, the authorities stated that they had several checkpoints throughout the city to achieve the recapture of the fugitives.
