Lawyer for implicated in 5G case files challenge against judge

The Office of the Special Prosecutor for the Persecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca) described the defendants as delaying tactics.

SANTO DOMINGO.- The judge appointed to hear the request for coercion measures against the defendants in the Operation Coral 5G case was challenged on Tuesday afternoon by the lawyers of General Jesús Camilo de Los Santos Viola.

The measure found reactions in favor and against on the part of the lawyers of the other defendants.

The challenge was submitted by Julio Cury, lawyer for the head of security for Danilo Medina, the major general of the Santos Viola, after considering that Judge Kenya Romero had previously known the file when she issued the arrest warrants, in addition to alleging that the magistrate He learned about the measure of coercion of the first subjects in the Coral case, where the main link is Adán Cáceres, head of security for former President Medina.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor for the Persecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca) described the defendants as delaying tactics.

Likewise, before challenging Judge Romero, General Viola’s lawyers presented a writ of habeas corpus, which was rejected.

The Public Ministry deposited the request for a measure of coercion together, they say, to more than 700 pieces of evidence that link the accused to the network of administrative corruption.

In this sense, the prosecuting body requested 18 months in prison as a preventive measure and that the case be declared complex.
