Health Minister Fahrettin Koca made a statement after his visit to Samsun Governorship.
Highlights from Minister Koca’s statements are as follows:
Today, we are in Samsun to evaluate and examine the situation of our provinces in the Middle Black Sea. We discussed the course of the coronavirus epidemic in Samsun. We had the opportunity to get information about the state of health services provided and the issues for which solutions were requested. Samsun is the center of attraction of the region. In parallel with this, their needs in the field of health are increasing day by day. Together with the coronavirus, we will take our steps accordingly.
We made our assessment about the health facilities and especially the city hospital needed by Samsun. We will have a more detailed explanation on this issue in the evening.
As you know, we have been fighting the coronavirus epidemic for 6 months. Unfortunately, the significant decline we experienced for a while by following the rules did not last long. Our patient numbers and losses started to increase again.

In this case, not only for all the world to Turkey. The increase in the number of our patients is not the same in all regions. While we see unwanted increases in some regions, we can keep the epidemic under control in some regions. Although the most prominent is in Central and Eastern Anatolia, we have had problems from time to time in our metropolitan cities. Our rate of increase in cases has been brought under control thanks to the measures taken and strict control across the country for the last week.
It has become one of our centers in Samsun and surrounding provinces that we have studied in this sense. Samsun is exposed to an important human movement because it is the crossroads to the Black Sea region. I would like to say that with the rapid and effective interventions we have made for the increase in Samsun, there has been a decrease in the number of cases at the rate of 1 in 3 compared to a month ago.
Our goal is to reduce the number of patients and our hospital load with the measures we will take. The average scan of contacts in Turkey were able to download up to 13 hours. In Samsun, our follow-up time has decreased to 9 hours.
There will be an important warning to our Samsun citizens from here. In our city, our rate of patients is quite high among our elderly people over 60 years old. The ratio of this age group to the population is 17 percent in Samsun, and our rate of patients is 28 percent. In other words, 65 percent more. Therefore, to protect our elders better; all Samsun residents, especially the youth, and our duty.
I always underline. The sooner we detect contacts, the more successful we will be in outbreak control. Cleanliness, mask and distance are our most important preventive power against this epidemic.
