Last Boeing 747 landed at Schiphol | NOW

KLM’s Boeing 747 made its last flight on Sunday. The iconic aircraft landed at Schiphol around 8.30 pm under the watchful eye of a number of aircraft spotters.

However, the municipality previously called on spotters not to come to the airport to avoid crowds. According to Het Parool there were indeed mockers present. The places where spotters normally stand had been cordoned off, but spotters were now on an adjacent cycle path, according to the newspaper.

In March, dozens of spotters gathered at the runway to watch the plane’s penultimate landing. To prevent it from becoming too busy again, the municipality decided to close off the special spotter places.

The 747, also known as ‘Queen of the Skies’, was said to be out of service earlier this year, but was eventually deployed for a few months due to the corona crisis. Since mid-April, the aircraft flew again between Amsterdam and the Chinese cities of Beijing and Shanghai.
