More than 150 guest workers, mostly from India, have recently moved to accommodation in Berettyóújfalu – RTL writes. The mayor says: he was not told in advance about the arrival of the guest workers. They cannot prevent this from happening, the authorities can only check the workers’ accommodation. In any case, he wants only guest workers who work there to come to the settlement.
This is not the case now: the guest workers living there are working on the construction of the BMW factory in Debrecen. One of them said: they get up at five in the morning, the bus that takes them to the construction site comes for them at six. They work there during the day and only come back at seven in the evening.
70 guest workers were accommodated in the dormitory in Berettyóújfalu, which has been closed for more than ten years, where they sleep on bunk beds and there is no regular heating, so they try to keep warm with electric heaters. According to one of the men coordinating them, they are only there temporarily, they will soon be moved to container houses. 80 guest workers sleep in the apartments of a local resort.
One company that mediates guest workers told RTL: it is not necessarily cheaper to employ guest workers than Hungarians, rather they work with them because of their reliability.
