Dagsturhytta Steinsvikbua is a stone’s throw away from Lista Lighthouse, located in Farsund municipality in Agder. The aim was to offer walkers a hut for well-deserved breaks, or refuge from the elements.

– It started very well and it was used a lot, says landowner Reinertsen to Dagbladet, who took over the restored cabin from his father.
The new landowner, on the other hand, is far from satisfied with how some have chosen to make use of the offer.
And this week he closed the cabin as a result of the vandalism.
– I will close it off with physical fences, says Reinertsen Agderpostenwho mentioned the case first.

Earlier in the week, Reinertsen had been called by the Service Office in Farsund municipality. They reported a bad smell from the day cabin.
The terrible sight that greeted him down at Steinsvikbua was far worse than he could have imagined.
– The toilets were full of shit. I was really pissed off, says Reinertsen to Dagbladet.
One toilet inside the cabin should only be used for urination, and the other for defecation. However, both were packed with the latter.
– People don’t understand how the incinerator toilets work, even though there are clear instructions on the wall, says Reineetsen, and adds that it should also have been written with alcohol marker on the lid.

Reinertsen says that, as the landowner, he is responsible for normal maintenance of the cabin, but that there is a limit to what he is able to deal with.
– I’m not interested in washing other people’s shit twice a month, he points out to Dagbladet.

No other option
In addition to the challenges that have arisen in the toilets, other areas in the day cabin have also been exposed to vandalism.
Reinertsen tells, among other things, about scratches in the wooden tables and kick marks on the walls.
What was initially supposed to be something nice and useful for the general public has become something he no longer wants to deal with, according to Reinertsen.
– The majority are good at taking care, but considering the costs and what it costs us to fix up after the damage, we now see no other option than to close, it is pointed out.
