Land Rover has modernized the Discovery, a controversial element at the stern remains

The third generation of the Land Rover Discovery has been on the market since 2017, so for 2021 the time has come for a minor upgrade. The carmaker has just revealed the rejuvenated car, but if you hoped that the rear would finally be symmetrical, we must disappoint you – the license plate is still shifted to the side.

It’s a reference to the first generation Discovery, which had a spare wheel mounted on the right side of the rear forehead, so the mark had to dodge to its left. But there is no such necessity here. The element is so controversial that some tuning companies offer a conversion kit that moves the brand into the middle.

However, what has changed is the car’s front and rear lights, of course LEDs. There are now sequential turn signals and the lamp design has been modernized. The changes also took place on the front bumper and other places, but they are all rather small and will stand out compared to the previous version.

In the cab, we see a larger and brighter central display, with which the driver or front passenger can control an improved infotainment called the Pivi Pro. It is connected to the Internet and is supposed to be faster and smarter than the system in the current Discovery.

In the interior, the larger central display is particularly interesting.

It offers wireless mirroring of the Android Auto or Apple CarPlay smartphone, updates via the Internet or the Clearsight Ground View system, which displays the entire area around the car. The driver has in front of him a 12.3 ”digital instrument panel and head-up display, and a new steering wheel with touch buttons in his hands.

For the first time ever, a 48V mild hybrid system will work under the hood, with six-cylinder engines. However, the basis is the P300 version, which offers a three-hundred-liter two-liter four-cylinder, burning gasoline, and the mild hybrid did not receive it.

The display shows a path where the driver cannot see it from behind the steering wheel.

The second ignition option is the P360, ie an in-line three-liter six-cylinder with an output of 360 hp. He already has electrical assistance, as well as both versions of the in-line three-liter diesel six-cylinder, marked D250 and D300, again according to the number of horses.

Of course, there is an air chassis with adaptive suspension and also an all-wheel drive system, which in the case of six-cylinder actively distributes torque between the axles. It has been slightly modified to reduce fuel consumption while driving on the road, but without compromising on off-road capabilities, according to a press release.

There is also a special mode for wading.

For off-road driving, the Discovery has several off-road modes, including one that can be fully individualized by the driver. Also of interest is the wading mode, which makes it easier to pass through deep water. When you switch it off, the car brakes lightly to warm up and dry the brakes.

The car is already available on the market, even in the Czech Republic. Its price starts at 1.69 million crowns.
