Samsung Will Release Two Second-Half Fold Screen Phones This Year

INILAH, Jakarta – Samsung Electronics is expected to launch two new folding screen phones in the second half of this year, with affordable models of folding screen phones likely to be released next year, according to industry sources, Yonhap news agency reported Sunday (6/28/2020) ).

Samsung is projected to launch the Galaxy Fold 2 and 5G variants of the Galaxy Z Flip at an event in August, along with its flagship Galaxy Note 20 series, according to sources.

However, an affordable smartphone, possibly named Galaxy Fold Lite, will not debut at the event.

The South Korean tech giant is rumored to be introducing a folding screen smartphone version that is sold at half the price of an ordinary Galaxy Fold.

Many cellphone reviewers estimate that Galaxy Fold 2 will appear with a 7.7-inch screen when opened, while when closed it will be 6.23 inches. This size is larger than its predecessor, which has a 7.3 inch screen when opened and 4.6 inches when closed.

Samsung is expected to use ultra-thin glass (UTG) for Galaxy Fold 2, as was done on the Galaxy Z Flip. However, many predict that the second generation of Galaxy Fold will not be equipped with S-Pen.

Meanwhile, the 5G variant of the Galaxy Z Flip is not expected to have major changes in specifications compared to the first model.

The launch of the latest folding screen phone from Samsung will compete with similar devices from Huawei and Microsoft.

Huawei reportedly plans to release Mate X2, while Microsoft will introduce Surface Duo in the third quarter of this year.
