Lack of chips will slow down car production. According to the study, it will fall by five million pieces – ČT24 – Czech Television

If there were enough semiconductors, about eighty million new vehicles would be produced this year. The center evaluated the already realized and expected production outages and it turned out that the second half of the year will be worse. “Delivery dates will be extended and production outages will continue in 2022,” said Dudenhöffer.

In the first five months of this year, the global car market increased by 34 percent compared to the same period last year, the survey showed. Growth should be weaker in the next part of the year.

On Monday, the German Automobile Industry Association (VDA) published a revised outlook for domestic production. From the previously mentioned four million, it has reduced the estimated number of cars produced this year in Germany to 3.6 million.

The Dudenhöffer Institute assumes that the lack of semiconductors, which form the basis of microchips, will manifest itself until the beginning of 2023. But then there will be a problem with batteries for electric cars. The demand for lithium-ion batteries is temporarily stronger than supply, the study concludes.
