The Paraguayan Student Association of the University of Melbourne, Australia, The Paraguayan Student Association (PSA) invites all citizens to be part of the cycle of webinars in English called “Paraguay Speaks Australia 2020”.

A series of conferences that begins tomorrow, Monday, August 17, and will run until Friday, August 21, through the Zoom platform. It is free and open to the public. Those interested should register at www.psaunimelb.com.

From 2016 to date, more than 60 Paraguayans have completed their postgraduate studies in the areas of education, science and technology at the University of Melbourne in Australia, through the national program of Carlos Antonio López Scholarships (Becal).

The PSA, inspired by the conference of Paraguayan students from UK universities, made a reply in 2019, thus being the first edition of “Paraguay Speaks Australia”. This time it will be the second edition of the meeting.

Paraguay Speaks Australia aims to strengthen ties between Australia and Paraguay by promoting a constructive dialogue between students, academics from the University of Melbourne and key participants from the Paraguayan government and the private sector. The initiative is supported by the University of Melbourne, the Graduate Students Association and Becal.

The format of each talk consists of a 40-minute presentation and a 20-minute session to answer questions from the audience. The PSA is chaired by Alejandra Bogado, who extended the invitation and also highlighted that currently 29 are Paraguayans who are studying at the University of Melbourne.

Likewise, he expressed: “Paraguay Speaks Australia is an academic space to share with the world the potential that we have as a country. At the same time, we want to recognize the pending structural changes and in this way guide the reforms necessary for sustainable development. From this vision, we have selected the themes for this second edition ”.

The economist Mario Romero, from the Paraguay-REDIEX Investment and Export Network, will start the cycle with a talk entitled “Paraguay, land of opportunities”. Next, Lorena Ríos will share her experience as leader of the “Casa de la Cultura Qom” project in Villa del Rosario, which was executed by the CIRD Foundation through funding from the Direct Aid Program (DAP) of the Australian government.

Likewise, Marco Riquelme, general manager of INDEL SA, will present the webinar on “Mazzei in the world and exports to Australia”. Continuing with Andrew Nickson, academic from the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom), an expert in Latin American studies, who will speak on “The challenge of inclusive and sustainable development in Paraguay”.

And finally it will culminate with the benchmark of Paraguayan livestock, Dr. Darío Baumgarten, whose presentation deals with “The opportunities and potential of the Paraguay-Australia strategic alliance, Belmont Reds”. These are the five exhibitors who will share their knowledge with the audience.
