The EU will add Canada and 10 other countries to its safe travel list

EU governments today agreed to add Canada and 10 other countries to the list of countries from which people are allowed to travel for minor reasons. This was stated today by European diplomats, quoted by Reuters.

The ambassadors of the 27 EU member states agreed to expand the list at a meeting today, and the changes are expected to take effect in the coming days.

The UK, where the highly contagious Delta coronavirus variant has caused a sharp increase in new infections, is not on the list.

The eleven new “safe” countries are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei, Canada, Jordan, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

EU countries are advised to phase out travel restrictions to the 14 countries currently on the list – Albania, Australia, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, Northern Macedonia, Rwanda, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States. The Chinese administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao are also included.
