Kristaps Porzingis of the Dallas Mavericks is asked to cash out by the NBA. The Mavs Big Man had disregarded the league’s corona rules when he went to a club in Los Angeles prior to the start of the series against the LA Clippers.
The NBA announced this in a statement, referring once again to the rules of the Corona Protocol, which prohibit players from visiting any bars, clubs or similar establishments. It doesn’t matter whether the player has already been vaccinated or not, which was even the case with Porzingis.
Most recently, pictures of the Latvian appeared, which showed him the evening after the game against the LA Clippers in a strip club in Los Angeles. The visit has no further consequences for Porzingis, according to investigations by the NBA, the Mavs star does not have to be in the corona protocol.
According to the NBA, the case of Porzingis is to be treated differently than that of LeBron James. The Lakers superstar also recently broke the corona rules when he participated in a promotional event for a tequila manufacturer. NBA spokesman Mike Bass said that the NBA would assess each case individually and only then decide whether a quarantine or penalty should be issued.
“We understand that you might want to compare this incident to LeBron James’, but the facts are different,” Bass told Shams Charania von The Athletic. “LeBron was briefly at an outdoor event where each participant was either vaccinated or had a negative COVID test.”
Mavs coach Rick Carlisle addressed the situation before Game 2 against the Clippers as follows: “We accept the rules of the league and will not comment on the matter further.” Porzingis himself said after the Mavs’ second victory: “To be honest, I didn’t quite understand the rules.
