The KNVB responded disappointed to the statements of Mark Rutte and Hugo de Jonge at the press conference about the corona virus. Jan-Dirk van der Zee, director of amateur football, will talk to Tamara van Ark, Minister for Medical Care and Sports, next week.
“This is a bit like dragging a victory out of the fire after 90 minutes, but the match is declared invalid at the final whistle,” Van der Zee said in a statement. ‘Despite all the work and all the waiting, we are left empty-handed.’
It bothers Van der Zee that in many other situations it is allowed to ‘upshift’. ‘But football is only allowed from two to four people who train on one field. For a team sport that is a step from nothing to almost nothing. While sports stimulate health and resistance and we train safely in the open air. Necessary to keep the 1.2 million Dutch people who play football healthy and fit. ‘
The KNVB will talk to Minister Van Ark next week to discuss possible solutions for amateur football.
