Vladimir Putin was the guest of honor at her wedding, now Austria’s former foreign minister is becoming a columnist. The Russian state medium RT wins Karin Kneissl as an author and makes herself the target of some critics.
After her famous curtsy in front of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, the former Austrian foreign minister Karin Kneissl has now hired as an author at the state media group RT. Kneissl, who danced with Putin at her wedding in 2018, is now the author of columns on RT, wrote editor-in-chief Margarita Simonjan on Twitter. In the first episode, Kneissl commented on the development and future of the auto industry in times of the corona pandemic. RT, the short form of Russia Today, is a television station founded by Russia with an Internet offer that is financed by the state.
In Simonjan’s tweet there was mainly criticism of the staff, including doubts as to whether Kneissl was a good author. Users criticized the fact that a western politician is now denying maintenance at the expense of Russian taxpayers. In summer 2018, Russian President Putin was the guest of honor courted by the right-wing FPÖ at the wedding of the then Foreign Minister.
Kneissl had defended her deep curtsey before Putin against criticism at the end of the dance. “The Russian President bowed before, and I answered that bow with a curtsey.” This was then assessed in the comments as an act of submission, as a knee. “And those who know me know that I don’t submit to anyone,” she said. Putin’s invitation to their wedding had caused irritation nationally and internationally.
