Due to the Schiphol problems, KLM lost 175 million euros. It is 30 million euros in compensation for passengers and 145 million euros in lost income, reports the airline announcing its quarterly data.

In the summer period from July to September, the demand for airline tickets was high, but due to problems at Schiphol the flights had to be canceled. Not all passengers could depart and the trips had to be rebooked.

Despite the chaos, KLM posted an operating profit of 443 million euros. The operating profit of the subsidiary Air France was higher, 570 million euros. At the bottom of the line, profit for the entire group this quarter was € 466 million.

It was the first quarter with the new president Marjan Rintel at the helm. On 1 July she succeeded Pieter Elbers.

The problems at Schiphol will continue to exist in the coming months. There is a maximum number of passengers that can depart due to a shortage of staff at the airport. KLM previously claimed that the company had had enough. “Additionally, we are jeopardizing a carefully built reputation,” the company wrote in a statement.
