Klitschko: Kiev is facing a humanitarian catastrophe

The capital of Ukraine Kiev is now completely “surrounded” by Russian troops, leaving no way out for millions of citizens facing before a “humanitarian catastrophe”. This was said on Sunday by Mayor Vitali Klitschko in an interview with AP.

The rest in the 2.8 million city they were forced to hide in bunker-like subway stations amid ongoing shelling. Klitschko, 50, confirmed that at least nine civilians, including one child, have been killed in Kiev so far.

“We are on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe,” he said of declining food and medicine supplies. We currently have electricity, we currently have water and heating in our houses. But the infrastructure has been destroyed to deliver food and medicine, “he warned.

Klitschko said that the curfew he ordered should be extended to at least 8 am on Monday – and has been largely implemented, to weed out the saboteurs who are fighting on behalf of Russia.

“We are persecuting these people and it will be much easier if no one is on the street,” Klitschko explained, claiming that six such “saboteurs” had been killed on Saturday night.

He acknowledged that there was a risk these enemies to hide among the long queues of people waiting to take up arms, which are distributed to help protect the nation.

“Honestly, we do not have 100% control, Klitschko admitted. We have built this territorial defense in a short period of time. At the moment, the most important issue is to defend our country,” he added.

He insisted that his nation remained “strong”.

“Every Ukrainian is proud to be independent, he is proud to be Ukrainian, and we are proud to have our own country,” he insisted on their refusal to surrender.
