Kjaer Called Kessie’s goal to MU’s goal should not have been overturned

Duel MU vs Milan in the first leg of the last 16 of the Europa League ended without a winner. The match which was held at Old Trafford, Friday (12/3/2021) in the morning WIB, ended with a 1-1 draw.

MU took the lead through Amad Diallo’s goal in the 50th minute. Milan then broke MU’s victory that was in sight through Simon Kjaer’s goal in injury time.

In that match, Milan broke into MU’s goal with Franck Kessie’s kick in the 12th minute. Kessie’s kick from inside the penalty box leads to the top right corner of the goal without being able to be reached by Dean Henderson.

However, after checking VAR, the referee annulled the goal. The referee considered Kessie to do handball while controlling the ball.

Simon Kjaer considered the referee to have canceled the goal wrong Franck Kessie. If Kessie’s goal had been valid, Kjaer said Milan could have had different results.

“I spoke to him and I think it was a mistake to cancel his goal,” Kjaer told Sky Sport Italy.

“It’s a shame because it could change the match,” he added.

The same thing was also expressed by Milan coach Stefano Pioli. According to him, Kessie admitted that he did not touch the ball with his hands.

“The goal could have given us more strength, especially at a mental level. Franck is sure he did not touch the ball with his hands, but the referee thought otherwise,” said Pioli.

AC Milan will take turns to host Manchester United in the second leg of the last 16 of the Europa League at the San Siro on March 18.
