And that while she is in quarantine with pneumonia because of the virus itself. “I now live between my sofa and the bed. It feels good that I can still do something useful for Reddit.”
Kim is one of the handful of administrators of the English language r / coronavirus, the main news channel on the online Reddit forum around the virus, with 1.4 million subscribers already. “You will find news that you would never find on the ‘normal internet’, such as local news from Lombardy and scientific publications. And this week even Bill Gates answered questions on our platform.”
Her role on the platform is to test messages that users post. In this way she ensures that no fake news is distributed. “A lot of nonsense is being posted. Like that garlic and ginger would cure Covid-19. And also a lot of YouTube videos from streamers looking to take advantage of it. Yesterday I deleted 1564 posts in a few hours.”
She does this together with administrators with a medical background. “Recognizing fake news can sometimes be difficult. But it is important to read the entire message and not just share the title for you.”
