HALDEN (VG) The man in his 30s who is charged with stabbing his mother in Halden on Wednesday has a number of convictions behind him. In 2014, he broke into a family of children with ax while lying asleep.

It was Wednesday morning that police received reports from several people that a woman had been stabbed in Halden. They moved to the place with great resources, where they found a critically injured woman in her 60s.

She was transported to hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later. Her son in his 30s is now charged with the murder and has been jailed for four weeks with a letter of banning and visiting. The man has consented to the prison.

– Defendants get a media ban for a week because the case is widely discussed in the media, his defense attorney Ole Richard Holm-Olsen tells VG.

– I cannot comment on how he poses the question of criminal guilt. He is questioned first, there is reason to believe it will happen today, he says.

The now murderous son has previously been convicted at least 14 times in Norway, and also once in Sweden. The offenses are mainly drug and drug offenses, but also road traffic offenses.

“The perpetrator is a police officer, but I do not want to go into detail about it, other than that the accused is known by the police for a different type of crime than what he is now charged with,” Ole Friestad police attorney in the Eastern Police District told VG Wednesday morning.

On Thursday he tells VG that they now want to contact witnesses who have stayed in the Båstalund / Karrestad area in Halden between 05 and 06 Wednesday. Call the police on 64994060.

“We are still in an early phase of the investigation and the tactical and technical investigations are still ongoing,” he continues.

Broke in with family of children

In a ruling from Borgarting Court of Appeal in 2015, he was sentenced to one year and four months in prison for acquiring 160 grams of amphetamine and breaking into a family of children at night while armed with ax.

The verdict reveals that the family woke up at night in May 2014 by sounds they believed were an earthquake. As they went to see what it was, they spotted the now murdered man in the living room with an ax in his arms. The living room windows were shattered from within, objects were taken and unpacked, or lay strewn out. The accused man refused to leave the house, and the mother and children locked themselves in the bathroom while Dad tried to get the man to leave.

Police finally came to the residence and arrested the man.

The man also visited the family at their residence just before the trial was to be held.

– The use of an ax, that he refused to walk and that he kept the ax while talking to the offended, must have been a very daunting experience, Halden District Court writes in his judgment.

After the serious burglary was committed, and before a final verdict was served, the murdered man was sentenced a further three times in Norway and once in Sweden.

Did not live together

The murdered mother lives on the spot where she was stabbed by her son, while the son has a place of residence elsewhere in Eastern Norway. On Wednesday, police were also at this address to conduct investigations.

“There is no information from the investigations here that there is reason to reproduce in the media,” police lawyer Friestad told VG on Thursday.

The accused man has for some time ago had his residence address with his mother in the relevant housing block in Halden.

VG spoke to several of the neighbors in the housing association in Halden on Wednesday. One of the neighbors, a woman who does not want to be named, says that for a time the woman’s son was not allowed to stay in the area because his behavior was considered problematic. Police Attorney Friestad is not aware that there has been any formal visitation ban.

It is currently unclear why the accused stayed in Halden on Wednesday morning, and what is the cause of the murder action.

– This is something that the investigation will clarify. Now we continue with technical investigations, and there will also be further investigations of a tactical nature such as witness questioning and questioning of the accused, says police lawyer Friestad.
