The train drivers’ union GDL will extend its strikes to passenger transport from Monday. The wage dispute has massive effects on rail traffic in Lower Saxony.
For Lower Saxony and Bremen, the railway expects “major restrictions in regional traffic”, as the group writes on its website. You are trying to maintain a minimum timetable offer, it says there. Nevertheless, in this situation one cannot guarantee that all travelers will reach their destination.
The goal is every two hours
In many cases, Deutsche Bahn plans to run its regional trains and S-Bahn trains every two hours, for example on the route between Osnabrück and Bremen. In the Hanover area, for example, the S1 Minden-Hanover-Haste and the S2 Nienburg-Hanover-Haste also run at this rate. The S3 Hildesheim via Lehrte to Hanover, on the other hand, is completely canceled. The railway asks to switch to the trains of the Westfalenbahn, as reported by the NDR in Lower Saxony. In general, the railway asks its customers, if possible, to refrain from unnecessary journeys during the strike. The strike should end on Wednesday at 2 a.m.
GDL does not accept the offer of the railway
On Sunday, Deutsche Bahn asked the GDL to cancel the strike in passenger traffic. The company had offered the train drivers to talk about a corona bonus required by the GDL. GDL boss Claus Weselsky described the offer as a sham offer. “The present offer is just another smoke candle and another attempt to fool the public,” said Weselsky. He announced that the strike in passenger traffic would take place as planned.
The offer will “fluctuate strongly” regionally
Not only in local, but also in long-distance traffic, there will be significant problems by Wednesday. According to Deutsche Bahn, long-distance trains will also run every two hours from Monday on selected main routes, for example between Berlin-Cologne, Hamburg-Cologne, Hamburg-Frankfurt or Munich-Stuttgart. “The number of trains on offer will vary greatly depending on the region,” it said on Friday.
