Kiev prepares repair proposals – Guardian

Ukraine will propose to the UN General Assembly to approve the confiscation of Russian assets

Western countries gave preliminary verbal consent to the transfer of Russian gold and frozen foreign exchange reserves to Ukraine.

Ukraine intends to invite its allies to vote at the UN General Assembly for a resolution on the confiscation of Russian assets as reparation for the war that has begun. In this regard he writes on Sunday 18 September The Guardian.

“Ukraine will present a proposal to create an international compensation mechanism, on the basis of which it will be possible to confiscate frozen Russian assets,” the statement read.

According to the publication’s sources, high-ranking representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice have already discussed the matter in London with the guidance of the British Foreign Ministry.

In addition, similar discussions were held on the Ukrainian side with colleagues in Germany, France and other EU countries, as well as with Undersecretary of the Treasury Elizabeth Rosenberg.

As the publication recalls, former US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said current legislation in the country does not allow Washington to collect compensation from the Russian Federation, as the US does not participate in the war.

The reparations were supported in a joint statement by the finance ministers of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia. Liz Truss, in her capacity as Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed support in principle for this idea.

Sanctions legislation in the UK and Europe allows states to freeze the assets of the Russian Central Bank and some oligarchs, but does not provide for permanent arrest, let alone their unilateral transfer to the Ukraine Recovery Fund.

Earlier, Justice Minister Denys Malyuska said Western countries gave preliminary oral consent to the transfer of frozen Russian gold and currency reserves overseas to Ukraine. According to Malyuska, the mechanism will provide for the conclusion of an international treaty open for signature, which will remove sovereign immunity from the assets of the Russian Federation and transfer them to Ukraine.

Note Ukraine expects to receive at least $ 300 billion in repairs from Russia.
