Düsseldorf The DFB Cup has started a new season. Here you will find the most important information about the schedule, the dates and where the DFB Cup games will be broadcast.
When does the DFB Cup 2021/22 start?
–
Traditionally, 64 teams take part in the cup competition. The games of the first main round in the DFB Cup will be played from Friday, August 6th, 2021 to Sunday, August 9th.

When will the next DFB Cup draw take place?
Olympic bobsleigh champion Laura Nolte drew the semi-finals of the DFB Cup on Sunday, March 6, in the ARD sports show. The draw manager was national coach Hansi Flick.

When does the DFB Cup final take place?
–
The DFB Cup final in Berlin will take place on May 21, 2022 – the Olympic Stadium has been the venue for the final since 1985.

As in previous years, 64 teams have qualified for the first round of the 2021/22 DFB Cup. These are the 18 clubs from the Bundesliga and the 2nd division of the 2020/21 season, the four best teams of the last third division season, as well as 24 representatives of the 21 national associations of the DFB. The three associations with the most members, Bavaria, Lower Saxony and Westphalia, each have two starting places.

Where is the DFB Cup broadcast on TV?
All games will be broadcast live on Sky. ARD will broadcast nine games on free TV, and four more top games up to the quarter-finals will be broadcast by Sport 1.

The way to the final of the DFB Cup
A team has to survive five rounds to reach the DFB Cup final. Every game is a knockout game. If there is a tie after 90 minutes, the winner must be found in extra time or, if necessary, in a penalty shoot-out.

Who is the record winner and defending champion of the DFB Cup?
Borussia Dortmund is the defending champion. In the 2020/21 final, Dortmund beat RB Leipzig 4-1. Erling Haaland (28th/87th) and Jadon Sancho (5th/45th) scored the goals for BVB, for Leipzig Dani Olmo scored (71st). It was the fifth success in the DFB Cup for the Ruhrpott club.

The record winner is FC Bayern Munich with 20 cup wins in 24 finals. However, FC Bayern has also experienced some disgrace in the DFB Cup – read more about it here. Werder Bremen follows in second place behind Bayern. The Hanseatic League won the title six times (ten final appearances). FC Schalke 04 and Dortmund follow with five cup wins.

What does the DFB pay out in bonuses?
In the previous season, there was 175,500 euros in the first round per club. In the second round, income of 351,000 euros was guaranteed. In the round of 16, 702,000 euros were paid out. The quarter-finalists received 1.4 million euros, the semi-finalists 2.8 million euros. The final was billed separately.
