The artist Khaled Sarhan has published on his Facebook page, a picture of his father, Dr. Mohamed Samir Sarhan, on the occasion of his 14th anniversary, commenting: On his memory of the death of the greatest need in my life, my father, may God have mercy on him.
Sarhan’s father is the writer Dr. Mohamed Samir Sarhan, the former president of the Egyptian General Book Authority, member of the Supreme Council for Culture and the Arab Council for Childhood, who died in 2006.
Dr. Samir Sarhan has many and varied contributions in various fields of culture that have had a tangible impact on the development of Arab national awareness through his presence as an author, translator, professor and head of major cultural institutions and bodies through which he was keen to publish all the symbols of the Arab world and host them and present them to the cultural reality, and provide an opportunity for young Egyptian creators And the Arabs.
Dr. Samir Sarhan holds a PhD from Indiana University in the United States in 1968 and worked as head of the Department of English at the Faculty of Arts – Cairo University, then worked as head of the English Language Department at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, and worked as dean of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, then worked as an undersecretary for the Ministry of Culture For mass culture affairs.
Then the editor-in-chief of the theater and the chairman of the board of the “Ibda’a” magazine, “Cairo” and “The World of the Book,” and Dr. Samir Sarhan, made critical contributions through his articles in Arab and foreign newspapers and magazines, in addition to his critical books and university teaching to dozens of critical professors. UNESCO has requested an application The Egyptian experience in reading for all and the family library with all the countries of the third world so that UNESCO contributes huge financial support to every country that applies the experience, as the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science is now applying the Egyptian experience in (reading for all) with an Arab library, and Dr. Samir Sarhan has taken an Arab expert in this field.
