For Nurmagomiedov it was the 29th victory in the 29th fight w MMA. As it turned out, it was his last fight, which the player informed in an interview right after the fight with Gaethje. All because of the death of his father, who was with Nurmagomiedów from the beginning of his adventure with martial arts.

Just seconds after the fight, the Russian fell in the middle of the octagon and cried, raising his hands to the sky. Nurmagomedov was recovering for a few moments and even during the announcement of the result and the conversation after the fight he was broken and sad.

– It was my last fight. There is no way I can come back without my father. I promised this would be the last fight, and if I give my word I stick to it. From the people closest to me, only my mother remains and I have to take care of her. I gave her my word that I would not return to the octagon – said Nurmagomedov after the fight.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomiedov, the player’s father, was hospitalized in April near his home, with symptoms of pneumonia. He then denied doctors who wanted to test him for COVID-19. Shortly after his condition worsened, he was transported by helicopter to Moscow, where he suffered a severe heart attack shortly after being diagnosed with the coronavirus in his body. He underwent a bypass surgery very quickly. In the following weeks, he was also put into a pharmacological coma twice.

Nurmagomedov Sr. died in early July due to complications from coronavirus and heart attack. He was 57 years old. The loss of my father and coach in one person was a huge blow to the UFC champion. Abdulmanap accompanied him at all stages of his sports development and became the author of his son’s success. In conversations with the media, “Orzel” repeatedly emphasized how important a role his father played in his life and how he had a huge impact on his career decisions.

In Russia, Abdulmanap – like his son and several other players he leads – was adored by fans. Everywhere this modest old man appeared, he was greeted by crowds of people wanting to take a photo with him or get an autograph.
