Key gas news! Rumen Radev has decided

The interim government is starting the preparation of transparent procedures for medium and long-term natural gas supplies, said President Rumen Radev during a meeting with representatives of Gastrade and the Copelouzos Group, shareholders of the liquefied gas terminal under construction in Alexandroupolis. However, he added, the choice of suppliers will be left to the next regular government

The head of state also added that the government is committed to ensuring the supply of natural gas throughout the heating season at the best possible prices.

A significant increase in interest in the terminal’s capacity was also noted at the start of the presidency meeting, against the backdrop of increased demand for liquefied gas. Bulgaria is at the center of supplies to Central and Eastern Europe: thanks to the IGB gas connection, the liquefied gas through Alexandroupolis can be delivered to Serbia, Ukraine and Hungary, the Greek side reported.

Gastrade also indicated that Bulgaria will have priority in increasing the terminal’s capacity. The company hopes to attract more participants from the region to the project.

Construction of the terminal is proceeding according to plan and is expected to go into operation as planned at the end of 2023. Its capacity today is 5.5 billion cubic meters per year. Its construction was financed with 166.7 million euros of European funds. Bulgaria, through Bulgartransgaz, has a 20% stake in the terminal.
