Kazakhstan Removes 10+ Russian TV Channels from Broadcast Schedule

In Kazakhstan, more than 10 Russian TV channels were removed from the broadcast schedule.

After the recent blocking of the Spuntik24 service in Kazakhstan, which broadcasts Russian propaganda, the republic dealt a new blow to Russian media – more than ten Russian TV channels were removed from the broadcast network, including Channel One of the CIS.

The broadcast of Russian TV channels is being stopped by the operator TVCOM, which is a partner of Kazteleradio JSC, reports The Moscow Times with reference to the company’s press service.

The official statement says that Russian TV channels of the PKVS Kazakhstan LLP family are being removed from the broadcast network of Internet TV and satellite television due to the decision to reduce the number of TV channels with news content. They will be replaced by TV channels broadcasting entertainment and educational programs, as well as sports. In particular, we are talking about such highly rated TV channels as Discovery and Eurosport.

The operator’s press service noted an increase in the level of media literacy of subscribers who obtain news information from Internet resources. The company also added that there was no exclusive content in the broadcasting network of the Russian Channel One.

Let us recall that in November the Sputnik24 resource, which broadcasts Russian propaganda TV channels, including Russia Today, was blocked in Kazakhstan. The official comment stated that the reason for the blocking was the provision of access to operators who do not have a license in Kazakhstan.
