Kasparov: The West’s Hesitancy is Costing Ukraine the War Against Putin

Vladimir Putin has continued his war against Ukraine for years, seeing the West hesitant to end his aggression.

The 13th world chess champion and oppositionist Garry Kasparov believes that opponents of the current Russian president are losing the war. Most supporters of a peaceful solution “conveniently ignore years of Russian attacks on their elections, businesses, economies, etc., as if the only aggression is the tanks that Russia is also using in this war.”

He noted that Ukraine is a real battlefield where hostile Russian forces can be seen and destroyed. However, where there is no obvious aggression, the tricks of Russian oligarchs and politicians are practically invisible: hacker attacks, manipulations by propagandists, interference in elections.

“Putin dared to launch a kinetic war in Europe after years of being emboldened by the West’s refusal to defend itself against his assassinations, election interference and economic takeover. For Russia, it was always war. The Baltics knew. Ukraine knew. They were ignored,” Kasparov writes.

The politician recommended thinking about whether Putin really cares what the West thinks about him. The dictator is still in power and is relying on the cowardice of the West to outlast him and bluff with a much weaker hand.

“If Ukraine does not win, it is only because its allies do not want it to win. The weapons necessary for victory were detained while they gathered dust in US warehouses. Putin rightly considers this weakness, not diplomacy, and will respond by continuing his hybrid attacks on you.

Putin is not stupid. He sees the overwhelming military power of the United States and NATO and thinks: “They could destroy me, but they don’t. Because they don’t want to. Because they are weak. Therefore, I attack,” Kasparov comments.

Ukraine is paying too high a price for the indecision of its allies, however, if the Russian Federation does not win now, the boundaries of the war will be expanded.

“This is the lesson that I would like the West to finally learn. The price is always rising. There will not be a better chance than now,” the chess player concluded.

Previously, Russian oppositionist Garry Kasparov commented results of the meeting of the heads of two countries – the USA and China.

Besides this, he statedthat US President Biden will give Ukraine long-range weapons next year.
