Coming up Solo City Election which will be held in November, the market for mayoral candidates is starting to heat up.
Dozens of names appeared in the market for candidates for mayor of Solo based on the results of a poll by the Solo Raya Polling agency released this week.
These names include the Chairman of PSI who is also the eldest son of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Kaesang Parangep; Chairman of the Golkar Party DPD for Surakarta City who is also the daughter of senior politician Akbar Tanjung, Sekar Tanjung; and, Rheo Yuliana Fernandes who is the son of the Chair of the Solo PDIP DPC, FX Hadi Rudyatmo.
Solo Raya Polling researcher, Suwardi, said that his institution conducted an opinion poll of 19 community figures from Solo. In this poll, 19 names of candidates appearing for the Solo Pilwalkot which will be held in November 2024 appeared.
“From the poll, 12 names emerged,” said Suwardi, Friday (8/3).
Apart from these three names, the others are KGPAA Mangkunegara
Then PKS politician Sugeng Riyanto who is also Deputy Chair of the Surakarta City DPRD, Deputy Mayor of Solo who is also a PDIP cadre Teguh Prakosa, Chair of the Solo DPRD Budi Prasetya, Bapilu PDIP Solo Her Suprabu, and member of the Republic of Indonesia DPR RA Yashinta Sekarwangi Mega who is the daughter of PDIP politician Aria Bima.
Regarding the opinion poll method, Suwardi explained that the Solo Raya Polling selected 19 figures from various circles.
Not only politicians, the opinion poll also involved academics, entrepreneurs, cultural figures, financial policy makers, NGOs, tourism industry players, youth leaders and palace figures.
“We conducted our poll for ten days. We asked respondents four questions,” he said.
They were asked about Solo’s future challenges after Gibran’s leadership, the characteristics needed to lead Solo City, and who meets these criteria.
“Then the last thing we ask is who will be included in the list of candidates for the leader of Kota Solo,” he said.
Suwardi said the poll was only the initial stage to determine the names that would be included in a wider survey. Respondents to the survey were selected from Solo residents who have been included in the Permanent Voter List (DPT) for the 2024 Election.
He confirmed that the Solo Raya Polling would use sampling according to responsible scientific methods. This was done so that the sample used could represent the population.
“Framework sampling “This is what guarantees that the residents of Solo City have the same opportunity to become respondents,” he said.
The Solo City Pilkada will be held simultaneously with other regional elections in Indonesia on November 27. Currently, the Solo regional head duo is still held by Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Deputy Mayor Teguh Prakosa.
Gibran, who is also President Ri Jokowi’s eldest son, is a participant in the 2024 presidential election as vice presidential candidate number 2 paired with presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto. So far based on quick calculations (quick count) a number of survey institutions and real count KPU, Prabowo-Gibran is ahead of two other participants in the 2024 presidential election.
